Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has opened up about the big day. He will return to Anfield as he leads his team to take on Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Alonso played for Liverpool between 2004 and 2009, winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Super Cup. And was named as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at the club last summer with Arsene Slot eventually taking over.UFABET

“It feels great to be back here after all these years. It’s always special. You see the development of the club, the new stand looks amazing.” Alonso said ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Anfield.

“Unfortunately, there is no time for sightseeing. I know the city very well. I love it. But I will focus only on the game.”

“Tomorrow (Tuesday) is a big game against Liverpool. It can’t get any better. Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe right now, with a great squad and a great coach. We are looking forward to the challenge and we will see what happens.”

Asked whether it was ever a serious consideration, the Spaniard, who won the 2005 Champions League during a five-year spell at Anfield, said: “At that time I was focused, I had a big thing with the players and we were really focused on that.”
